Why I'm walking to World Arthritis Day

I am raising money for Versus Arthritis by taking on Walk to World Arthritis Day.

This is my own personal challenge to support the lives of those living with arthritis in the UK. Versus Arthritis won’t rest until everyone with arthritis has access to the treatments and support they need to live the life they choose, with real hope of a cure in the future.

Your donations will fund world class research, high quality services and campaigns that matter most to people with arthritis.

Did you know that arthritis is not just for older people?

Saturday 31st Aug
My daughter had problems with her knees a few years back when she was a young teen. Many trips to the doctors and even a trip to A&E  we were turned away and told it was growing pains or due to non supportive shoes. Things progressed and over the last year there have been days when she can’t get out of bed, straighten her arm or open her hand. The pain is in every joint and the pain is now just normal for her.
We finally got a GP who thought it might be worthwhile to do a blood test to check her anti-CCP antibodies. We were told that normal is 10 or below, so imagine our shock when we were told that she was 340.
Treatment is pretty intense for her and the meds can have some pretty dire side effects.

My beautiful girl turned 18 last week, this week she met with the rhuematology staff and had the wind completely blown out of her sails.  It’s been very shocking for her and she’s taken a few days to come to terms with this.

Nothing worse for a parent to see their child in pain and struggling. I wish it was me not her but that is life so I wanted to do something to raise awareness and raise funds for services she can make use of to support her on this journey.
