My story
Wednesday 28th Aug
At the start of 2023 in January I woke up one morning and noticed my knee was incredibly swollen... rang the doctors to be given some exercises to do for a week before going in to see the doctor.
The week passed, could I do the exercises? Nope I was in so much pain it hurt, I had my appointment and was told I had torn my ligament so I thought okay it's gonna heal? Yes I was given physio but even them moving my knee hurt! He wanted me to have a scan cause he didn't know what to do for me.
A month or so passed but knee still swollen so rang doctors again and got an appointment, doctor said I've got lots of fluid round my knee and said its not a torn ligament it's my cartilage this was a different doctor to who I saw previously. This time a scan was needed!
Got my call for my mri scan and had it but needed to wait 2 weeks before I knew the results. At this point I'm still in pain my knee keeps giving way I can sometimes hardly walk, getting up stairs isn't easy I'm wearing a knee support all day.
2 weeks passed and I hadn't heard anything so I rang the doctors to ask about the results, the receptionist tells me oh yeah it says you have fluid on the knee and early arthritis! 2 weeks before my birthday what a bummer.
Now I'm 9/10 months in the year, my knee is still swollen I can tell its fluid but my god its still painful... yes a knee support helps but do I want to live in a knee support? Not really, I've done my own research and bought myself a tens machine for my knee and it helps but as the weather now is turning I've got a heat knee support just to keep it warm as I have found either having it warm or cold with an ice pack helps.
I can feel my knee grinding and can tell when it's about to give way, luckily it's not given way for a while (touch wood!) But I can definitely feel it grinding. Maybe soon the doctors will listen to me and know that it's hurting and I'm NOT TOO YOUNG to work out what's best for me.
