Why I'm walking to World Arthritis Day

I am raising money for Versus Arthritis by taking on Walk to World Arthritis Day.

I’m doing this because I’ve just been diagnosed with a type of inflammatory spondylarthritis.

At my appointment with the rheumatology nurse, he gave me a leaflet about the type of biologic immunosuppressant injections I will start shortly having. It was printed by Versus Arthritis! So I went online to the Versus Arthritis website and found so much useful information and ways to help myself deal with this disease. Exercise is a key component!

So, I signed up to this challenge, mainly to make a start towards a new fitter and healthier me, so I can fight this disease. But also to help raise awareness about the many forms of arthritis and its debilitating effects.

Your donations will fund world class research, high quality services and campaigns that matter most to people with arthritis.

Thank you ☺️

At the seaside

Sunday 22nd Sep
Absolutely amazed myself yesterday with the amount of walking I did! Nearly 14000 steps! I’m hurting this morning, but no more than the usual. I think I’m ready for this challenge now ❤️

1st anti-TNF injection

Monday 16th Sep
Today I had an appointment for my first injection of adalimumab. It was a video call with a specialist nurse to go through everything I need to know about giving myself these injections once a fortnight.
It was a bit daunting, but not as bad as I thought it would be.
Apparently, it can take between 2 and 12 weeks to feel it start to work. Here’s hoping it’s nearer 2 than 12!

The first steps.

Saturday 7th Sep
I’ve made a start tracking my steps in the hope of building up to doing 8000 a day by 1st October.
Not a bad start - nearly 5000 yesterday! 🙌
