My Story
Wednesday 28th Aug
In September of 2021 I was on my final mental health nursing placement when I started to experience frequent and severe pain in my feet, ankles and shins, I thought nothing of it as I had experienced muscle problems all my life.
It wasn't until I was crying in pain waiting for my bus home that I thought I needed to do something, I saw the in house physiotherapist at my GP surgery, who passed me to a more senior orthopaedic practitioner - she didn't tell me her direct concern but sent me for blood tests and an MRI of my knee.
I got a call from my GP a day later at 7PM which was unusual, I answered lots of questions about my pain and was told I was being referred to Rheumatology for suspected inflammatory arthritis - I very much underestimated the gravity of this.
In May of 2022 I was officially diagnosed with seronegative inflammatory arthritis, were still not sure what type but it's likely rheumatoid.
Since then I have been on methotrexate, sulfasalazine, prednisolone and more recently adalimumab to manage my condition.
I won't lie, I'm not where I'd like to be in terms of remission or management but better than I was.
I did graduate with my nursing degree and have found a good job that is suitable for my condition following a rocky road as a newly qualified and newly diagnosed.
I've recently been able to walk a little more and so thought this would be a good way to keep that up and challenge myself - 10000 steps would be impossible for me right now but, 1000 a day will do.
