Why I'm moving...

I am moving to build a healthy and sustainable healthy habit all while raising money for Arthritis UK and a future free from arthritis.

Over 10 million people in the UK live with arthritis, affecting their ability to work, study, care for family, move free from pain and live independently. But arthritis is still poorly understood and far too little is done.

That’s why Arthritis UK funds life-changing research, supports those affected and campaigns for change. Arthritis UK won’t rest until everyone with arthritis has access to the treatments and support they need to live the life they choose, with real hope of a cure in the future.

Small steps

Monday 11th May
Almost £300 raised!

What an achievement, and I got a lovely call from arthritis UK to say I’m one of the top fundraisers, which is really cool.

I almost cried on the phone when they told me.

I’ve had a rough few days. The pain feels like it’s really settling in and with a month still to go waiting on new medication, I’m finding each day a different struggle.
Whether it’s the physical struggle of daily tasks, the mental load of figuring out what my body can do each day, or the emotional weight of feeling like I’m finally realising this is my life.

I’ve put my health in the back seat for years. I don’t think I really came to terms with the fact this is a life long condition until recently. I have to make changes to better myself for my future. I get scared with each new symptom that this will be the kicker, the thing that I can’t come back from. And those thoughts are so hard to live with. But I’m making a promise to myself to make a change and do what I can to make my future as healthy as possible.

So I’m back in regular therapy, I’m looking at my diet, I’m taking the plunge to ask for help (which if you know me, is not easy) and I’m going to be better for myself.

My movement today is limited. But I moved. I spent 30 minutes doing housework. Small lifting and bending, washing and getting dressed. And that’s okay.

One day at a time.

A small hiccup

Thursday 7th May
Oh hi friends!

So I said when I started this that I was experiencing a pretty nasty flare up. And yup, you guessed it, it’s not gone away.
I’m currently waiting to start new medication and it’s going to be another month until I get that, so I’ve had a couple of off days. I will be catching up. I will be completing this challenge, but I’ve had to put my health first on this one.

My plan is to do a few more dedicated walk this weekend and not be hard on myself when I can’t do every day to the fullest. Arthritis is a condition that fluctuates and unfortunately I’m in a really rough period.
But, we move!

Thank you to everyone who’s donated so far, I’m hoping to get back on track asap!

14 Years On..

Thursday 30th Apr
So it’s coming up 14 years since my diagnosis.

I’ve tried so many things to stabilise my condition, from medication to diet changes, exercise to meditation. Everything helps in its own way, but it’s definitely not an easy ride.

Living with a condition that manifests in pain and a skin condition means that some medications help one but not the other. So deciding on which is the lesser of two evils can be hard.

I’m also at an age where I’m trying to make decisions for my future, so being healthy and mobile is important. But some medications help massively, and then you’d have to come off them if you wanted to have children.
I’m fortunate to be starting a new medication that means I won’t have to do that. Not that I have plans right now!! But meds can take months to stabilise, so being able to have new meds that I can stay on is exciting.

However, they are intravenous, which means injections. Which historically I’ve been so afraid of. Despite being covered in tattoos…

So this month will be a lot. Emotionally and physically. But I’m ready for the challenge!
